Liquid Comics is a digital entertainment company focused on creating original stories to engage global audiences across various media platforms. The company was founded by entrepreneurs, Sharad Devarajan, Gotham Chopra and Suresh Seetharaman, and uses the medium of graphic novel storytelling to develop original content for various digital platforms, publishing, theatrical live-action films, animation and games. Liquid's creative partners include acclaimed filmmakers and prominent creators such as John Woo, Shekhar Kapur, Deepak Chopra, Guy Ritchie, Dave Stewart, Priyanka Chopra, Jonathan Mostow, Ed Burns, Grant Morrison, Nicolas Cage, John Moore, Wes Craven and others.
Liquid believes the future of publishing exists beyond the printed page and that digital distribution provides an opportunity to reach wider and more diverse audiences for Liquid's characters and stories, while also providing richer and more immersive entertainment experiences. The company has begun launching its content across digital platforms including the Sony Playstation PSP; iPad; various mobile platforms; Scribd.com; Sony E-Reader, Overdrive and more.
In addition to its digital initiatives, Liquid currently has a number of film and television projects in development including the Warner Bros. film adaptation of Gamekeeper with director Guy Ritchie; Virulents with director John Moore; Voodoo Child with actor Nicolas Cage and Reliance; The Leaves with Summit Entertainment; Beyond in development as a theatrical film with author Deepak Chopra; Ramayan 3392AD, in development with Mandalay Entertainment; The Stranded, in development for television, with the Syfy Channel and First Family in development at FremantleMedia Enterprises.
Mr. Sharad Devarajan is a media entrepreneur, creator and producer. He was previously the Co-Founder, CEO & Publisher of Virgin Comics LLC and Virgin Animation Pvt. Ltd, a set of companies he and his partners originally co-founded in 2005, with Sir Richard Branson's Virgin Group, author Deepak Chopra and filmmaker Shekhar Kapur. In 2008, Mr. Devarajan and his partners completed a management buyout of Virgin Comics and renamed the Company, Liquid Comics. Mr. Devarajan currently oversees all aspects of the Liquid's business and operations. He is also Producer / Executive Producer on a number of theatrical live-action film and television projects in development, based on Liquid's properties, including the Warner Bros. film adaptation of Gamekeeper with director Guy Ritchie; Virulents with director John Moore; The Leaves with Summit Entertainment; Beyond with author Deepak Chopra; Ramayan 3392A.D. with Mandalay Entertainment; The Stranded, with the Syfy Channel and First Family with FremantleMedia Enterprises.
Prior to Liquid, from 1997 – 2005, Mr. Devarajan was Co-Founder & CEO of Gotham Entertainment Group, which was a leading South Asian youth magazine publisher that launched the Indian publishing activities for DC Comics, Marvel Comics and Cartoon Network. In 2004, Mr. Devarajan worked with Marvel to reinvent Spider-Man as an Indian boy growing up in Mumbai. Unlike traditional translations of western characters into foreign markets, the new series, "Spider-Man: India" was heralded as one of the industry's first "trans-creations."
For his activities, Mr. Devarajan was featured as CNNfn's 'Maverick in The Morning' and covered in numerous media including The Wall Street Journal, Businessweek, Time, Newsweek, The New York Times, Fox News and NPR's Fresh Air. Mr. Devarajan has served as a speaker at various events including, Fortune Magazine's Global Forum in New Delhi, Duke University's Fuqua School, Time Warner's A-3 Pop Culture Panel, South Asians in Media and Marketing (SAMMA), FICCI Frames and Harvard Business School.
He holds a BFA from Syracuse University, where he has also served as a Visiting Professor to Fine Arts undergraduate students, and an MBA from Columbia University where he is an Adjunct Associate Professor regularly teaching, Media Marketing and Entrepreneurship, at Columbia Business School.
Mr. Chopra is the co-founder of Liquid Comics (formerly Virgin Comics and Virgin Animation) and serves as the Liquid's, "Producer-in-Residence." He is the author of three books, including the comic book Bulletproof Monk for which he also served along with John Woo as Executive Producer on the feature film produced by MGM Studios (2003). Formerly an award winning journalist and documentary filmmaker, Gotham reported from countless warzones and has interviewed a wide range of Global leaders – from President Bush to the Dalai Lama. He also served as researcher and lyrical adviser to Michael Jackson on the multi-platinum albums Dangerous and HIStory
More recently Gotham was integrally involved in the formation of Current TV, co-founded by former Vice-President Al Gore and launched in 20 million homes in August of 2005. Gotham remains a contributor and key advisor to the network as it continues to re-define and democratize the "television experience." Gotham is also a partner and founder of the K Lounge, a NYC based bar and lounge that replicates the ancient opium dens of 15th century India.
As a founder and partner in Chopra Media, Gotham oversees a wide range of integrated media initiatives including currently developing a daily TV series for his father, celebrated writer and spiritualist Deepak Chopra. He is also currently producing over half a dozen feature films with personalities including John Woo, Guy Ritchie, Nic Cage at the likes of Warner Brothers, New Regency Films, Summit Entertainment, Reliance Entertainment and more.
Gotham's varied experience in journalism, publishing, and entertainment had him identified by Newsweek magazine (March 04) as one of the "most powerful and influential" South Asians worth watching. He lives and dies by box scores related to the Boston Red Sox, Celtics, and New England Patriots. Mr. Seetharaman is the co-founder of Liquid Comics (formerly Virgin Comics and Virgin Animation) and overseas Liquid's creative team and operations in India and Asia. At Liquid, Mr. Seetharaman has been principally responsible for recruiting and training a new generation of leading artists and creators from India, transforming the perception of India from an "outsourcer" to "a source."
Prior to Liquid, Mr. Seetharaman was Co-Founder & COO of Gotham Entertainment Group, which was a leading South Asian youth magazine publisher that launched the Indian publishing activities for DC Comics, Marvel Comics and Cartoon Network. Previous experience included positions as SR Vice President & Executive Director of Clarion McCann; National Creative Director of J Walter Thompson India; Regional Creative Director Asia-Pacific for Advertising Associates based in Singapore; Mr. Seetharaman was the founder of Creative Works (P) LTD.
